Yemenite Pittas


  • Mehudar wholegrain spelt flour
  • 3 Tablespoons dry yeast
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1/3 Cup oil
  • 4 – 5 Cups water


Mix everything, apart from the salt. Add the salt towards the end. The dough should be slightly runny, but thick enough to form shapes with it in a frying pan.
Moisten your hands and create pittas in a grill pan.
Tip: You can form the pitta shapes on baking paper that’s cut to the desire size. You can then place it in the pan on the paper. This helps prevent the pittas from sticking to the pan and keeps things clean.

For this recipe you can use any one of the following flours:

Wholegrain spelt flour, 70% Spelt Flour, White Spelt Flour, 100% Wholewheat Flour, 70% Wholewheat Flour, White Sifted Flour
